According to the BBC, he said the ANC was "worse than the apartheid government." At issue is South Africa's denial of a visa for the Dalai Lama so he could visit for Tutu's 80th birthday celebrations. The ANC insists this has nothing to do with pressure from China. Color me unconvinced on that score.
More interestingly, Bishop Tutu said, "I am warning you, one day we will start praying for the defeat of the ANC." Tutu is one of the last South Africans whose moral credibility from the anti-Apartheid struggle remains intact. If he were to endorse another party, it would be a major blow to the ANC.
